BAMEDCA - DOUALA BRANCH

The BAMEDCA Limbe Branch is one of the most active branches of the Bamendankwe Development and Cultural Association in Cameroon. Located in the South-West Region, the branch serves as an important hub for Bamendankwe people living and working in Limbe and surrounding communities. Through regular meetings and collective initiatives, the branch promotes unity, cultural identity, and active participation in the development of Bamendankwe.

The branch holds monthly meetings on the first Sunday of every month and has a membership of approximately 85 registered members, with about 60 actively participating in its activities.

Leadership

The branch is currently led by:

President: Mr. Mbolifor Simon Ngutungsiri

Under his leadership, members continue to demonstrate strong commitment to community development through financial contributions, volunteer efforts, and participation in BAMEDCA initiatives.

Community Contributions

Despite its relatively small size, the Limbe Branch plays a significant role in supporting BAMEDCA’s national development agenda. Members have shown strong solidarity in supporting major community projects, particularly the BAMEDCA Multipurpose Hall Project in Bamendankwe, through pledges and financial contributions remitted to the national account at ANICCUL Credit Union.

The branch is also actively working to strengthen its local presence by maintaining and improving its branch facilities in Limbe.

Local Development Initiatives

The Limbe Branch continues to pursue several initiatives aimed at strengthening its operational capacity and creating sustainable resources for the association. These include:
•Refurbishing and improving the branch meeting hall and its surroundings
•Fencing the branch compound to secure its property
•Constructing small income-generating structures on the property
•Renovating the hall through tiling and painting
•Securing a land certificate to protect the property and prevent land disputes

Commitment to Community Development

The BAMEDCA Limbe Branch remains deeply committed to supporting development efforts in Bamendankwe. Members continue to contribute resources, ideas, and volunteer time to projects that improve community infrastructure, strengthen cultural identity, and support collective progress.

Through unity and shared purpose, the branch continues to embody BAMEDCA’s guiding principle of “Peace, Unity, and Development.”

In 1997, the chapter created the Bamendankwe Development Trust (BDT), a registered UK charity that serves as its development arm. Through BDT, the chapter mobilizes resources and implements development projects for the benefit of the Bamendankwe community in Cameroon.

As the Bamendankwe population in the UK grew and spread across different regions, the chapter expanded its structure. In 2017, the Midlands and North Branch was created alongside the South Branch, allowing members to organize more effectively at the regional level while maintaining a unified national structure. Coordination between the branches is overseen by the BAMEDCA-UK National Executive, which works closely with the branch leadership teams.

Through the Bamendankwe Development Trust, BAMEDCA-UK has supported numerous community initiatives in Bamendankwe. These include providing laboratory equipment to GBHS Bamendankwe, donating medical supplies to the Bamendankwe Health Centre, supporting classroom construction and renovations in several schools, contributing to infrastructure projects such as culverts, and assisting with the construction of the Bamendankwe Cultural Hall in Buea.

One of the chapter’s most impactful initiatives has been its scholarship programme, which has supported pupils, students, and apprentices from Bamendankwe since 2008. The programme funded an average of 100 beneficiaries annually until it was temporarily suspended due to the ongoing crisis in the region. The scholarship programme resumed in 2024.

In July 2025, BAMEDCA-UK hosted its first-ever convention, an important milestone for the chapter, which was honored by the presence of His Royal Majesty Fon Forchesiri III.

Today, BAMEDCA-UK continues to play a vital role in connecting Bamendankwe people in the United Kingdom, preserving cultural identity, supporting development projects at home, and engaging younger generations to ensure the long-term strength of the Bamendankwe community.
